The Pseudo Telekinesis Technique

What do you think the typical human concentration span is? 10 minutes? Half an hour? A couple of hours? The answer actually is 7 seconds! Yes you read that right, only 7 seconds.

You see, while you might be able to focus your attention on a task for an entire hour or more, that task is actually made up of lots and lots of smaller activities. And once you break those down into the smallest actions you will find you cannot focus your concentration on a single idea, quality or property for more than just few seconds.

Now I know there’s a good chance that as you’re reading this you’re thinking this is nonsense, I mean of course you can focus on something for more than 7 seconds right? Well let me prove it to you.

First pick any object close by you, and then choose one particular quality of that object. The shape or the colour for example. Now fully concentrate on just the single property, try to hold only that one property in your mind. Finally notice how quickly your concentration shifts to some other quality of the object, or to another object entirely, or to what you might have for dinner!

This ability to focus your mind is a fundamental tool that underpins your mind’s working memory capacity and in turn your intelligence and problem solving abilities. And this brings us on to some good news.

Since your concentration span is so tiny, if you can find a technique to increase your concentration span, by say even just a second, this will lead to a huge increase in your overall concentration ability and your IQ will go up as a result.

The Pseudo-Telekinesis Technique

1.) Make sure you are sitting comfortably at a table or desk. Somewhere where you won’t be disturbed for the next 10 to 15 minutes.

2.) Place a coin on the table in front of you.

3.) Now bring your focus to the edge of the coin. By this I mean just concentrate all of your attention along the coins edge.

4.) Imagine you are trying to push the coin with your mind, that by focusing on its edge hard enough, the force of your mind will make it move.

5.) Obviously the coin won’t actually move, but I find it helps to suspend your disbelief and really imagine you can move the coin with your mind as this will make your focus stronger.

6.) Maintain your focus on trying to move the coin with your mind for as long as you can. Inevitably other thoughts will start to drift into your mind and distract your focus. Whenever this happens simply acknowledge the intruding thought and then return your focus back to the edge of the coin.

At first you will probably find this sustained concentration takes up a lot of effort, and you will need to take a break after a few minutes, but with practice you will find you are able to try longer sessions, slowly build up your session time up to about 20 minutes.

There’s no reason you have to use a coin for this technique, focusing on the flame from a candle works well too. Try to make the flame grow bigger using your mind.
