Improve Your Creativity

If you've got a tricky puzzle to solve, try looking at it from a different perspective. ..literally. Reseach carried out at the Australian National University in Canberra have found that people solved anagrams faster when lying down.

If lying down isn't an option then try stretching your left arm out in front of you or bend your right arm at the elbow. Volunteers who made these moves performed much better on a creative thinking task, in which they had to find innovative uses for an everyday object.

Even simple eye movements from left and right can help you to think more laterally. This motion encourages the right and left hemispheres of the brain to communicate, which boosts creativity.

Flexing your willpower

Discoveries in neuro-biology have shown that there is just one neural circuit that is responsible for our self-control. So exercising your willpower in one aspect will also make it stronger in others.

To avoid making a rash or impulsive decision, try holding off from scratching an itch to boost your resolve. Another way to feel this improved willpower is to not give in to the temptation to yawn next time you feel sleepy.

Walking backwards, or tensing your muscles, can all strengthen your resolve, too. Folding your arms, meanwhile, seems to make you more persistent at a task in hand.
